Turning 3! Thomas Birthday Party! I love to go all out for my kids' birthday parties and I thought I would share my ideas with everyone.

My little cutie turned 3 and just had to to a Thomas the Train themed birthday party for him.  I built a Thomas Cake and did train sugar cookies.

I started out with four rectangle cakes and froze them all. Then I frosted them together and froze it all again, to stiffen the frosting.  Then I pulled it out of the freezer and carved the whole thing with an electric knife, to look like a train.  I frosted it the best I could.  It's not perfect by any means but my 3 year old loved it!  Good enough for him.

I made cardboard trains for them to choo choo around the house in.  I made a masking tape train track around the house and they had to follow it to find the treasure at the end.  They had little whistles to blow while driving the trains.  :)

I build the trains out of diaper boxes, or any other box that was the right size.  I spray painted them the right colors and painted the names and numbers on the sides.  Then I spray painted some icecream buckets for the heads and hot glued those on, then hot glued paper plates with drawn on faces onto those.  Then added the toilet paper roll on there.  I painted paper plate wheels and glued those on.  And there you go!  An awesome train for all the kids!  They were tons of fun to make.

My little cutie hitting the pinata I made him.

I started this out with another diaper box.  I glued a whipped cream carton on for the face because I had no more icecream buckets, then added the paper plate face on.  Then I scored some cardboard and curved it for the room.  I added the candy and then sealed it up.  I added the wheels.  then I took crepe paper and elmer glued it on.  I strung the rope through the top and Ta Da!  There it is!  It was lots of fun and hard to break.  :)

This was the set up for frosting cookies.  His favorite Thomas toys as decorations in the middle and themed plates and napkins, very simple.  I also used a little crepe paper and some balloons around the rest of the house to decorate.

This is my cutie frosting his cookies at the end of the party with his friends.  Yum!  Happy birthday sweetie!

  4. Thanks Debby! I am glad you like the trains, they were so much fun to make. They can double as a Halloween costume as well. I wish my son wanted to wear one this Halloween but he doesn't. :( Good luck with making them and if you have questions let me know.
